The Isotope Hydrium is definitely one of those modern dive watches that stands out for its distinctive design, particularly in a market where so many independent and microbrand divers still seem to take at least some inspiration from the familiar Submariner formula. The British brand has also had plenty of fun with the collection over the years, producing Hydrium models in a range of funky dial designs and colours including yellow, blue and orange, alongside more restrained executions. Then there is the particularly quirky Hydrium Trippy, which is one of a kind and perhaps the clearest example of just how far Isotope is willing to push the Hydrium’s playful side.
The latest release brings a new personality to the Hydrium collection. This time, the inspiration comes from a rather unexpected source — the underwater predator, the grey reef shark.
Form and Colour Inspired by the Grey Reef Shark
The Grey Reef Shark inspiration is present in the watch through both its colour and overall character. The watch has a raw, cold grey tone, with touches of white and black providing subtle contrast while keeping the overall appearance restrained. Isotope describes the watch as having an “almost brutalist character.”
At the centre of the dial sits the raised Lacrima motif, a signature seen across many of Isotope’s watches, surrounded by a raised chapter ring for the minutes. The large bezel and its matte appearance complement the brutalist character, with very little colour or ornamentation present.
Overall, the Grey Reef Shark has a minimalist, almost industrial feel. However, the distinctive Isotope hands in contrasting colours and the curved Lacrima motif soften the design slightly, giving an otherwise raw-looking watch a more nuanced personality.
The Basics
Underneath the new aesthetic, the Grey Reef Shark retains the familiar Hydrium platform. The watch measures 40 mm in diameter and 48 mm lug-to-lug, and uses a micro-blasted 316L stainless-steel case topped by a double-domed sapphire crystal. As you’d expect from a dive watch, there is obviously a unidirectional diving bezel, and the water resistance rating of 300 metres is considerably more than most owners are ever likely to require. The movement of choice is the Swiss-made Landeron 24 automatic, offering a 40-hour power reserve. The movement is customised with blued screws, perlage and Côtes de Genève, all of which can be enjoyed through the exhibition caseback.
The First Hydrium to Get a Bracelet
The Grey Reef Shark also marks the debut of a stainless-steel bracelet for the Hydrium collection. Constructed from solid, bead-blasted stainless-steel links, the new 22/18 mm bracelet features quick-release spring bars and a diver’s clasp with micro-adjustment. More importantly, the bracelet has been designed to fit every Hydrium produced to date. So, if another Hydrium catches your attention, the lack of a bracelet shouldn’t necessarily be a concern anymore. The bracelet will also be available to purchase separately. Alongside the bracelet, the watch is also supplied with a grey FKM rubber strap.
Availability
The Isotope Hydrium Grey Reef Shark is limited to 200 pieces and became available on 10 September 2026.
It is priced at GBP £1,083 + VAT, including both the stainless-steel bracelet and grey FKM rubber strap. The new Hydrium bracelet can also be purchased separately for £223 + VAT.
