Earlier this year, I was looking at watch exhibitions I could attend and came across quite a few interesting ones. I have also published an article highlighting some of the events across Europe where you can discover independent and microbrand watchmakers.
But as someone living in the Netherlands, I was a little disappointed to find that there wasn’t much happening closer to home. If I wanted to attend one of these events, travelling to France, Switzerland, or elsewhere in Europe seemed almost inevitable.
Well, my dear Dutch watch enthusiasts, I am happy to tell you that this is no longer the case. We have a new watch event happening right here in the Netherlands.
Meet Tijd aan de Zaan
The event is called Tijd aan de Zaan, and behind it is Stef Vlottes – a watch enthusiast and collector who has been involved in the watch-collecting scene for more than 20 years.
Over those years, Stef has also been a loyal visitor to watch-related events and fairs. Like me, he noticed the lack of watch exhibitions here in the Netherlands. Unlike me, however, he took the brave step of actually doing something about it and decided to organise one himself. The result is Tijd aan de Zaan, a new event bringing watch brands, collectors, dealers, and other watch-related businesses together under one roof.
Dutch brands, international names and more
The event brings together watch brands, dealers and other businesses connected to the watch industry and community. At the time of writing, a total of 15 exhibitors have already been confirmed, with a few more expected to follow.
The participating brands naturally include Dutch names such as Pellikaan Timing and VPC Watches, but I am also pleased to see international brands making their way to the Netherlands. Among them are some well-known names such as Fortis, Hanhart and Marathon Watches. With more exhibitors still to be announced, it is worth keeping an eye on the event website for updates.
Apart from the brands showcasing their watches, there are also other activities on the agenda. A master watchmaker will demonstrate the craft live, offering visitors an opportunity to see some of the work that normally happens behind the closed doors of a watchmaker’s workshop. Experts will also be present to demonstrate or discuss topics such as watch polishing, restoration, maintainance, safe storage and insurance of your valuable watches. When and where is Tijd aan de Zaan?
Tijd aan de Zaan takes place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM in De Stoomhal, Rijstpellerij Pakhuis Hollandia, Pakhuisplein 44, 1531 MZ Wormer.
For those travelling from Amsterdam, Wormer is relatively easy to reach by train or car, making this an event you can comfortably turn into a Sunday day trip.
