Why we curated this watch
- The Design - While many dive watches from independent makers draw inspiration from iconic models like the Rolex Submariner, the Isotope Hydrium Trippy takes a far more original approach. Its matte-finished case, moiré-effect dial that creates a shifting optical pattern, and distinctive mushroom-shaped hands give the watch a bold, fun and unconventional character - making it feel less like a traditional diver and more like a wearable piece of art.
- The watch is also a strong contender as a dive watch. With its screw-down crown and 300-meter (30 ATM) water resistance, it offers the durability and reliability expected in this segment, placing it firmly among the capable dive watches in its class.
-
The Movement - The Isotope Hydrium Trippy is powered by the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101 Soigné automatic movement, a high-grade calibre known for its reliability and modern engineering. The movement offers an impressive 68-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to run for nearly three days without being worn
The Hydrium Trippy features a 316L stainless steel case that has been microblasted to achieve an even matte finish. This treatment gives the watch a rugged, sporty character while reducing reflections. The watch also includes an exhibition caseback, allowing a view of the movement and adding an extra touch of visual interest to the overall design.
The dial of the Hydrium Trippy is far more than a simple backdrop. By layering fine patterns, Isotope created a moiré effect - an optical interplay that shifts subtly as the watch moves and the light changes. The hands of the Isotope Hydrium Trippy are one of the watch’s most distinctive and playful design elements. Instead of traditional baton or sword hands, the Trippy uses mushroom-shaped hands for the hour, minute, and central seconds, turning the simple act of reading the time into a whimsical visual experience. The mushroom motif ties directly into the concept behind the Trippy edition. Mushrooms are often associated with curiosity, wonder, and a slightly surreal sense of discovery - an idea that echoes the watch’s constantly shifting moiré dial design.
The calibre used - La Joux-Perret G101 Soigné automatic movement, is a swiss made calibre known for its reliability and refined finishing. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with 24 jewels. In addition to automatic winding, the movement can also be hand-wound using the crown.
