The Arvet from the Swedish microbrand ALATO is a vintage‑inspired dressy-sports watch powered by an automatic movement. It stands out with unique design elements, notably its Reuleaux‑triangle motifs. With 42 hours of power reserve and 100 meters of water resistance, it is a watch that is built for everyday use without compromise.

Why we curated this watch

  • The Design - The ALATO Arvet's design takes inspiration from vintage watches, but it NO, isn’t a replica. ALATO created a unique design that feels familiar yet original. The usage of Reuleaux triangle plays a key role in this identity.
  • Versatility - The Arvet has design and proportions that work in almost any situation. You can wear it to work, keep it on for dinner, and even pair it with a suit at a wedding. Its 100‑meter water resistance makes it safe around water. The hardened 1200HV case adds durability for outdoor use. It’s a watch  designed to wear all day without thinking twice.
  • Value for money - The Arvet offers strong value in its price range. It comes with a reliable Japanese automatic movement, 100 meters of water resistance, screw down crown  and an exhibition case with a customized rotor. The 1200HV hardened case is a standout feature at this level. Altogether, the watch delivers strong specifications that make it a competitive option for budget‑conscious enthusiasts.

More on this watch

When I first came across the ALATO Arvet, three things immediately made me want to take a closer look. The vintage‑influenced design was the first hook; I’ve always been drawn to dials that carry a touch of the past, even if I can’t fully explain why. The second was its 38 mm diameter - as someone with a smaller wrist, I naturally gravitate toward watches with more restrained proportions, and the Arvet sits right in that sweet spot. And finally, the fact that it’s designed in Sweden sealed my curiosity. I’ve long been a fan of Scandinavian design, not just their interior design but also the watches they produce. Watches such as Bravur’s Grand Tour Chronograph, Nezumi’s Tonnere, and Atelier Nossedh’s AN.01 have consistently caught my attention. The Arvet feels like a continuation of that lineage: clean, intentional, and quietly characterful.

The Arvet is ALATO’s first watch, designed as a versatile dressy-sports piece with a clear vintage influence. At a glance, the dial would look familiar to anyone who loves classic vintage‑watch aesthetics, but ALATO hasn’t just recreated another vintage looking watch. Instead, they’ve added their own unique twist through the use of the Reuleaux triangle. This geometric shape - created by replacing the straight sides of an equilateral triangle with smooth arcs - was studied and popularised by the 19th‑century German engineer Franz Reuleaux, who explored how shapes move and how mechanical forms can be optimized. His work made the Reuleaux triangle a symbol of clever engineering and constant‑width geometry. The name Arvet (means “the legacy” in Swedish) itself is a nod to the engineering heritage of Franz Reuleaux - the mind behind the Reuleaux triangle that inspires the watch’s design. You can see the triangle’s influence throughout the design of Arvet, from details on the dial to the customised rotor on the caseback, giving the watch a unique identity while still keeping its vintage‑inspired charm. The use of the Reuleaux triangle likely stems from the designer Pierre Strömbäck's engineering background. It’s a thoughtful influence, one that has been applied with clarity to create a distinctive watch design.

The Dial
The dial of the ALATO Arvet leans heavily into vintage inspiration, but it does so with a level of detail that gives it its own identity. At the center sits a textured guilloché section, carrying the brand name, model name, and the notes on its automatic movement and 100‑meter water resistance. Surrounding this is a second circular ring that holds the hour markers - and this is where the design becomes especially interesting. Instead of using identical markers all around, ALATO introduces its Reuleaux‑inspired triangular markers at 12, 3, 6, and 9, while the remaining hours are marked with rounded indices that flow smoothly with the triangular forms. The hands follow the same design language, shaped in a way that echoes the soft geometry of the Reuleaux triangle. Moving outward, a final ring houses the minute markers, completing a dial that feels rich in both texture and structure. To ensure visibility in low light, the hands and all hour markers are filled with lume, adding practicality to an already thoughtful design.

The Case
The case of the ALATO Arvet is crafted from 316L stainless steel, but what truly sets it apart is its hardened surface treatment, reaching an impressive 1200HV. Considering that standard stainless steel sits around 200HV, this gives the Arvet roughly six times the scratch resistance of a typical everyday watch - a meaningful advantage for a piece designed for regular wear. Turning the watch over is an exhibition caseback, where ALATO has gone beyond the ordinary. The rotor is fully customized and shaped using the same Reuleaux triangle motif that defines the Arvet’s design language, with the edges of the triangle filled with lume so it glows softly in the dark - a small but striking detail. The caseback also is decorated with Geneva stripes, adding a touch of traditional finishing. A screw‑down crown and 100 meters of water resistance round out the case, making the Arvet not just visually distinctive but genuinely practical for daily use.

Movement
Inside the Arvet beats the Miyota Caliber 9039, a reliable no‑date automatic movement known for its slim profile and smooth performance. It runs at a high beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour, giving the seconds hand a refined sweeping motion. The movement uses 24 jewels and offers a power reserve of over 42 hours, making it a dependable choice for everyday wear. The Japanese caliber's stability and accuracy complement the Arvet’s design philosophy perfectly - practical, clean, and built with intention.

Bracelet and colour variations.
The ALATO Arvet comes fitted with a stainless‑steel bracelet that tapers from 20 mm at the lugs down to 16 mm to give it a balanced and comfortable wrist presence. The clasp includes an on‑the‑fly adjustment system, allowing quick micro‑adjustments throughout the day - a practical touch that adds to the watch’s everyday versatility. ALATO also offers the Arvet in a wide range of dial colours, from the classic black, white to richer tones such as blue, green, burgundy and gold for those who prefer a more vibrant presence on the wrist.

Conclusion
The ALATO Arvet stands out as a strong option for anyone seeking a sporty, versatile everyday watch. It enters a competitive microbrand space where brands like Traska have already proven how appealing hardened‑steel, do‑everything watches can be - especially among enthusiasts who value durability and honest specifications at a fair price. With its 1200HV scratch‑resistant case, unique design language, and attention to detail, the Arvet positions itself as a compelling contender in this segment. For buyers looking for value, character, and practicality in one package, the ALATO Arvet makes a convincing case.
