DOXA is a Swiss watch brand recognized for its robust-built dive watches and its distinctive use of bold colour, most famously the bright orange dial that has become a defining part of its identity. The name, taken from the Greek word for “glory,” reflects the brand’s long‑standing commitment to precision and practical innovation.

The company’s origins trace back to 1889, when Georges Ducommun founded DOXA in Le Locle, one of the historic centres of Swiss watchmaking. Ducommun began his training early, entering a watch making apprenticeship at the age of twelve, where he quickly developed a reputation for skill and resourcefulness. At the age of twenty‑one, Georges had established his own business - "Georges Ducommun, Fabriques DOXA " - setting the foundation for a brand that would go on to carve out a distinct place in the world of professional tool watches.

Following Ducommun’s passing in 1936, leadership was taken over by his son-in-law Jacques Nardin, grandson of Ulysse Nardin, continuing the brand’s legacy in Swiss horology. DOXA’s defining moment came in 1967 with the introduction of the SUB 300 - one of the first professional dive watches available to the public. Designed with real diving conditions in mind, it featured a unidirectional rotating bezel and a highly legible orange dial, chosen for its visibility underwater. This was followed by the SUB 300T Conquistador in 1968, one of the earliest dive watches equipped with a helium escape valve.

Like many Swiss watchmakers, DOXA navigated the challenges of the quartz era before entering a new chapter in 1997, when the Jenny family acquired the brand and relocated its headquarters to Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.

Today, more than 130 years after its founding, DOXA continues to produce exceptional timepieces. With models such as the SUB 300 and SUB 600, the brand remains highly regarded among dive watch enthusiasts. Each watch is hand-assembled in Switzerland, reflecting DOXA’s commitment to quality and precision. Blending functional innovation with a bold visual identity, DOXA stands as one of the highly respected independent brands in the world of dive watches.
